The Arrivals

On the evening of May 6, 2017, Brooklyn’s Barclays Center was filled to capacity and humming. Tickets for Barbra’s highly-anticipated concert sold out weeks in advance, yet by 8:10 p.m., two sixth-row seats remained conspicuously empty.

If you had floor seats or binoculars, it was a good night for stargazing.  Donna Karan, Barry Diller, John McEnroe and his wife, singer Patty Smyth, Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, Josh Brolin with his wife, Kathryn, Jim Brolin, Sigourney … Read more »

To All of Barbra’s Fans,

Today we are celebrating a very special birthday for our beloved Barbra. As if being the best-selling female recording artist in history wasn’t enough, Barbra has also been passionately fighting for so many important causes throughout her life: women’s health and women’s equality, civil rights and voting rights, educational opportunity and the preservation of the planet. In 2014, Barbra co-founded the Women’s Heart Alliance (WHA) and together they are leading the movement to promote women’s … Read more »

It’s kindness and empathy that will make America greater, Mr. Trump.

I’ve said this before, but I’m saying this again. Trump is a walking, talking illustration of what psychologists call “the disowned self,” a person who refuses to recognize his own flaws and instead projects them onto others. He accused Hillary Clinton of being a liar and said she was “Putin’s puppet,” when that glove seems to fit him. Before he was president, … Read more »

It was striking to see how this president has spent his first 40 days in office versus those of President Obama. Nancy Pelosi sums it up:

Hello Los Angeles! What a beautiful day…what a great country we already live in!

I’m going to start by quoting H. L. Mencken, the journalist, satirist and social critic, who said in 1920: “On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

I’m not sure the minority who voted for Trump are prepared for what is coming next.

The witch-hunt of Hillary Clinton has been underway for several decades. Comparing 17th century notions of witchcraft with rightwing accusations against Clinton, Stacy Schiff rightly notes in her “New York Times” article, “[Witches] appear suspect in advance of their crimes.” Susan Faludi wrote this weekend,

When a politician ends almost every sentence with “believe me”… don’t! He’s probably lying.

According to PolitiFact, Donald Trump’s statements are rated “false,” “mostly false,” and “pants on fire” 71 percent of the time. In other words, the majority of the time that Trump speaks, he is not telling the truth.

But do the facts matter to Donald Trump or many in the media who are too entertained to correct his lies? We

While Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg apologized for her remarks on Donald Trump last week, politicians and the media who did backflips to criticize her are rewriting history. Strong, opinionated women, like “The Notorious RBG,” are always criticized. She spoke what many people already feel about the utterly unqualified Donald Trump. Her comments deserve a deeper analysis beyond subjective punditry or sanctimonious Tweets.

Until a few decades ago, the popular but falsely reassuring belief was that babies in the womb were perfectly protected by the placenta and that children were just “little adults,” requiring no special protections from environmental threats. We now know that a host of chemicals, pollutants and viruses readily travel across the placenta from mother to fetus, pre-polluting or pre-infecting a baby even before birth.

Toxic chemicals like lead, certain air pollutants,
