Singer, actress, director & philanthropist to meet health leaders to advance gender equity research and ensure women’s heart disease is a health policy priority

Washington, D.C.  (May 15, 2018) — Barbra Streisand, co-founder of the Women’s Heart Alliance, was in the nation’s capitol today to deliver the prestigious J. Edward Rall Cultural Lecture at the National Institutes of Health and raise awareness about women’s heart health and cardiovascular disease (CVD), which kills more women each year in the U.S. than … Read more »

In an ovation-filled evening, Barbra Streisand received the Paley Media Center’s coveted Icon Tribute Award from that organization’s  CEO and President Maureen Reidy, culminating an evening of laughter and surprising revelations as television’s noted power producer and lifelong Streisand fan, Ryan Murphy, engaged in  a conversation of candor, truth, wit and charm with the star.

As the Los Angeles Times described the occasion (in a story headlined  Barbra Streisand opens the Annual Paley Fest on a high note,)  “Friday’s salute … Read more »

To clarity misinformation in a story issued by local Los Angeles television station, KABC, the nature of cloning occasionally results in the birth of a litter rather than a single animal. The cloning procedure in this case resulted in a litter of four beautiful puppies, three of which survived. The KABC story was inaccurate in it’s headline which stated that Ms. Streisand had had beloved Coton de Tuléar, Samantha, cloned twice. The fact is that in using the DNA of … Read more »

After putting out an article (on this website) about how fake news gets almost double the tweets than real news, I felt really sad. Why are people so drawn to insults and negativity? Why do fake stories sell more than true ones ? Is it human nature? It was disconcerting to see, in an article about me, how an anecdote about “the boys club” on a set gets turned into a vicious piece of nonsense. I was talking about a … Read more »

We are writing to you from The Pet Fund, the largest national nonprofit that pays for veterinary care for those who cannot afford it. After reading media sources report criticism regarding your recent successful dog cloning, we wanted to send our support for your decision for two reasons: first, cloning is an important aspect of cancer research, and second, the response to losing a pet is a process no one has the right … Read more »

This is why I’m reluctant to give interviews without having quote approval. In last week’s Variety article, they mistakenly made it sound like I didn’t want to be in Funny Girl! What??? I fought hard for that part! How could they make that mistake? I loved the character of Fanny Brice (they even misspelled her name Franny).… Read more »

Women are now proving they are powerful when they stick together and are unafraid to speak truth to power… unafraid to stand arm in arm with EVERY American and find a way forward together. Many of us were at the history-making march last year when Donald Trump was inaugurated, and we were hoping against hope that some good would come out of this Administration. Unfortunately, day-by-day, Trump has provided us – – both by his actions and … Read more »

Here’s a terrible fact—

There has not been a single woman who has won the Golden Globe for Best Director since I was fortunate enough to win it for Yentl in 1984…that’s 34 years ago!    Not right!

More women should be directing!

In my humble opinion, I was very disappointed that director Dee Rees and her powerful film Mudbound wasn’t even nominated.

I also would have liked to see director Patty Jenkins and her exciting film Wonder Woman be recognized

Thank you Alabama for giving our country a great Hanukkah present by electing Doug Jones.

Now we can have fun watching McConnell blame Bannon; FOX News blaming McConnell; and waiting to see who blames Trump and who he blames, fingers pointing in all directions.  Of course, we will have to watch McConnell push the obscene tax vote before Jones is seated.

Nonetheless, this is a huge statement combined with the Virginia election a few months ago that bodes very well … Read more »

Last night, voters signed a referendum against Donald Trump and his regressive and divisive policies. His unpopularity and the resistance from activists helped fuel Democratic victories across the nation. The victories had both breathe and depth from school boards and city councils to Governor’s mansions.

The most watched election was in Virginia where Democrat Ralph Northam far exceeded late polling to win a resounding victory for Governor. Democrats swept the other statewide offices in the state including … Read more »

It’s a natural quality for women to nurture, and we should hold on to that generosity of spirit.

At the Women in Film luncheon in 1992, I spoke about the skewed perception of women in relation to men. I shared my thoughts on how language gave us an insight into the way women were viewed in a male-dominated society:

A man is commanding—a woman is demanding.

A man is forceful—a woman

What happened to make Donald Trump so reflexively cruel?

Henry Kissinger once pondered a question about President Richard Nixon, “Can you imagine what this man would have been like if somebody had loved him?” This brings up the debate about the role of nature and nurture in the development of one’s personality and makes one wonder about Donald Trump. Why is he so insecure that he has to lie at every occasion about

NEW YORK — When Barbra Streisand was a 19-year-old ingenue, she never had a problem performing in front of small crowds — it was her livelihood. The Brooklyn girl could only get gigs in clubs that sat a few dozen people.

“It’s hard to have stage fright when, like, there’s no stage!”

That was Barbra Streisand last Saturday night at NYC’s tiny club, Village Vanguard. VV is the kind of artistically reputable, physically dinky spot the great star played back in the early 1960s, when she sang for practically pennies and – if she was lucky – her suppers. (Barbra never actually performed at the Vanguard – she auditioned to open for Miles Davis but didn’t get the gig!)
