For those who are encouraged and inspired by my art, you make what I do worthwhile – – thank you, dearly. For those who tell me to “keep my mouth shut,” here is my response. It’s as true today as it was nearly 25 years ago when I spoke these words:

President Kennedy was the first to suggest the creation of the National Endowment for the Arts. Well aware that art can be controversial, he concluded, “[the artist] must often

Today, Columbia Records has released “Don’t Lie To Me,” a new single written and recorded by Barbra Streisand from her upcoming album Walls, due out November 2nd. Despite countless meetings, discussions and briefings to explain what occurred during the recent terrorist attack on the United States Consulate in Benghazi, Senator John McCain and a handful of Republicans will not stop fueling the flames of a supposed cover-up by the White House, Secretary of State, and U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice. There is no evidence to support that a cover-up occurred, and a majority of Americans agree with the President and want their elected leaders in … Read more »

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, I can’t comprehend how there are still climate change deniers out there. Yet there are. These last few days, we’ve all seen pictures of New Jersey and New York LITERALLY under water. And the extreme droughts in the Midwest, the floods in Vermont and the fires in Colorado and Texas this year only validate what nearly every leading scientist has confirmed: Climate change is REAL and causes extreme weather conditions.

Obama vs. Romney: A Clear Choice

In this election, the people of America have to make a choice between two candidates with very different values, visions and solutions to the most pressing problems facing our country. The question voters need to ask themselves when they walk into the voting booth on November 6th is: “Will the country be better off returning to the policies of George W. Bush’s Administration?”
Like Bush, Governor Romney believes we need more … Read more »

Republicans don’t want to spend money to strengthen the economy, but we have to. The people need it , children need it, our infrastructure needs it, and the economy needs it . FDR spent money to pull our country out of the Great Depression. It will work again and it’s the only way to get people back to work.

Please read the below excerpt from Robert Reich’s article, “A Question of Timing,” which speaks to this point:

After nine long years, over eight billion taxpayer dollars spent, nearly 4,500 US soldiers killed, over 32,000 seriously wounded, and more than 100,000 Iraqi civilians dead, we now can assert that our government invaded Iraq based on a big lie. Why does this all matter now? Because the man who fabricated Iraq’s WMD program recently taped a two-part interview airing this week on BBC 2 to confirm what most Americans, outside the opinion elite, only heard rumours … Read more »

It seems these days that the Republican debates have become a forum in which candidates can assert just about anything. With the right amount of aggression, they are able to avoid answering tough questions by bullying the moderator into submission (i.e. not asking strong follow up questions in order to correct the record). We know there is a certain level of theatrics in politics. The electorate assumes that candidates will embellish, evade, and even sidestep at times … Read more »

To clarity misinformation in a story issued by local Los Angeles television station, KABC, the nature of cloning occasionally results in the birth of a litter rather than a single animal. The cloning procedure in this case resulted in a litter of four beautiful puppies, three of which survived. The KABC story was inaccurate in it’s headline which stated that Ms. Streisand had had beloved Coton de Tuléar, Samantha, cloned twice. The fact is that in using the DNA of … Read more »

After putting out an article (on this website) about how fake news gets almost double the tweets than real news, I felt really sad. Why are people so drawn to insults and negativity? Why do fake stories sell more than true ones ? Is it human nature? It was disconcerting to see, in an article about me, how an anecdote about “the boys club” on a set gets turned into a vicious piece of nonsense. I was talking about a … Read more »

When I do an interview, I like to be quoted accurately. I also expect the truth to be told, with facts checked.

This is why I’m reluctant to give interviews without having quote approval. In last week’s Variety article, they mistakenly made it sound like I didn’t want to be in Funny Girl! What??? I fought hard for that part! How could they make that mistake? I loved the character of Fanny Brice (they even misspelled her name Franny).… Read more »

When I saw the play in 1985 I was very moved and immediately contacted Larry to acquire the rights. After going through several drafts with Larry, I hired another writer to develop a screenplay that was faithful to Larry’s play — but adapting it to make it more cinematic. It was … Read more »
