By Barbra Streisand.

Last night, voters signed a referendum against Donald Trump and his regressive and divisive policies. His unpopularity and the resistance from activists helped fuel Democratic victories across the nation. The victories had both breathe and depth from school boards and city councils to Governor’s mansions.

The most watched election was in Virginia where Democrat Ralph Northam far exceeded late polling to win a resounding victory for Governor. Democrats swept the other statewide offices in the state including … Read more »

It’s a natural quality for women to nurture, and we should hold on to that generosity of spirit.

At the Women in Film luncheon in 1992, I spoke about the skewed perception of women in relation to men. I shared my thoughts on how language gave us an insight into the way women were viewed in a male-dominated society:

A man is commanding—a woman is demanding.

A man is forceful—a woman

What happened to make Donald Trump so reflexively cruel?

Henry Kissinger once pondered a question about President Richard Nixon, “Can you imagine what this man would have been like if somebody had loved him?” This brings up the debate about the role of nature and nurture in the development of one’s personality and makes one wonder about Donald Trump. Why is he so insecure that he has to lie at every occasion about

Demand that your government faces the facts.

These latest hurricanes really hit home for me, because I started my last tour in Houston and ended in three cities in Florida – the last being Miami.

But the question is – what is causing so many violent storms?

Fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas create heat–trapping emissions in the atmosphere, warming the planet. The oceans are warming as well – and the … Read more »

For all his ranting about fake news and fake media…

There’s a narcissistic fraud in the White House. An angry, hollow, vindictive man is running the country. What bottomless emotional need does he have for acclaim? It is hard to know where his rampant narcissism ends and serious mental problems ensue. He lies prodigiously and for no reason except he obviously has an unclear vision of what the truth is.

Is his narcissism

I think Americans would agree that intelligence – examining our complicated world and finding the best solutions for hard questions; reading; thinking; evaluating different points of view; etc. – is an important quality for a president to have. After all, the world that the president has to lead is a pretty complex place. The impacts of his decisions are massive. We’re talking life and death for people all over the world. President Bush is not embarrassed by his lack of … Read more »

You strongly supported Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination. Was switching to Sen. Barack Obama difficult?
We had a very deep bench of Democratic Presidential candidates in the primary, and we were very lucky to finally have two capable, dynamic and intelligent candidates vying to be the nominee. Supporting Sen. Obama for President was an immediate decision for me after Sen. Clinton ended her bid for the Democratic nomination. Throughout this process, they challenged each other to be … Read more »

‘Out of many, one’ It’s the sentiment he’s repeated since the moment the world was first introduced to Senator Barack Obama at the 2004 Democratic convention. It’s the idea trailblazers before him have used to inspire a generation of people to a call to action–to shake things up and remind us of what’s possible when the American people come together to help one another in achieving bigger dreams. Barack has awakened in many of us the notion that we can … Read more »

Over these past few weeks, I have been thinking a lot about the public’s disapproval of the democrats in Congress. Americans voted for change in the last election, but today most of the public falsely believe that democrats have only maintained the status quo. Americans aren’t aware that democrats in congress have actually held numerous votes on Iraq, the environment, children’s healthcare, the economy and other domestic concerns. They don’t realize that the reason there has been little progress on … Read more »

Larry Kramer does not need me to publicize his beautiful play. It stands on its own. For the last time – I will answer his complaints, which rewrite history.
