Barbra Streisand’s brand-new album, What Matters Most: Barbra Streisand Sings the Lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman, is available in stores and online today.
Barbra rarely performs live, so when she does, it’s a true event. In February, Barbra was honored as MusicCares Person of the Year, and she delivered an incredible 30-minute set at the annual gala. Our Nancy O’Dell sat down with Barbra to talk about the honor and ask why she performs so infrequently.
“I really love privacy,” said Barbra. “I love recording because it’s just me and the music, me and the orchestra, me and the musicians, me and the words… It’s just a wonderful experience, and it’s private. Making movies is private. It’s very tough, you know? It’s tough to sing for two hours and sing the same old songs. … So it’s fun to sing things that are new, fresh, challenging.”
What Matters Most: Barbra Streisand Sings the Lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman includes 10 Bergman songs that the Grammy winner has never previously recorded, including The Windmills of Your Mind, That Face, Solitary Moon, and What Matters Most. The 2-disc deluxe edition also includes such Streisand favorites as The Way We Were, You Don’t Bring Me Flowers and Papa, Can You Hear Me?
