In an ovation-filled evening, Barbra Streisand received the Paley Media Center’s coveted Icon Tribute Award from that organization’s CEO and President Maureen Reidy, culminating an evening of laughter and surprising revelations as television’s noted power producer and lifelong Streisand fan, Ryan Murphy, engaged in a conversation of candor, truth, wit and charm with the star.
As the Los Angeles Times described the occasion (in a story headlined Barbra Streisand opens the Annual Paley Fest on a high note,) “Friday’s salute … Read more »
To clarity misinformation in a story issued by local Los Angeles television station, KABC, the nature of cloning occasionally results in the birth of a litter rather than a single animal. The cloning procedure in this case resulted in a litter of four beautiful puppies, three of which survived. The KABC story was inaccurate in it’s headline which stated that Ms. Streisand had had beloved Coton de Tuléar, Samantha, cloned twice. The fact is that in using the DNA of … Read more »
After putting out an article (on this website) about how fake news gets almost double the tweets than real news, I felt really sad. Why are people so drawn to insults and negativity? Why do fake stories sell more than true ones ? Is it human nature? It was disconcerting to see, in an article about me, how an anecdote about “the boys club” on a set gets turned into a vicious piece of nonsense. I was talking about a … Read more »

We are writing to you from The Pet Fund, the largest national nonprofit that pays for veterinary care for those who cannot afford it. After reading media sources report criticism regarding your recent successful dog cloning, we wanted to send our support for your decision for two reasons: first, cloning is an important aspect of cancer research, and second, the response to losing a pet is a process no one has the right … Read more »
When I do an interview, I like to be quoted accurately. I also expect the truth to be told, with facts checked.
This is why I’m reluctant to give interviews without having quote approval. In last week’s Variety article, they mistakenly made it sound like I didn’t want to be in Funny Girl! What??? I fought hard for that part! How could they make that mistake? I loved the character of Fanny Brice (they even misspelled her name Franny).… Read more »

For those who are encouraged and inspired by my art, you make what I do worthwhile – – thank you, dearly. For those who tell me to “keep my mouth shut,” here is my response. It’s as true today as it was nearly 25 years ago when I spoke these words:
He was a good senator and a good man who never lost his sense of humor. He was unafraid to speak out against his own party and even helped me in the fight against women’s heart disease! He will be sorely missed.

Women are now proving they are powerful when they stick together and are unafraid to speak truth to power… unafraid to stand arm in arm with EVERY American and find a way forward together. Many of us were at the history-making march last year when Donald Trump was inaugurated, and we were hoping against hope that some good would come out of this Administration. Unfortunately, day-by-day, Trump has provided us – – both by his actions and … Read more »

There has not been a single woman who has won the Golden Globe for Best Director since I was fortunate enough to win it for Yentl in 1984…that’s 34 years ago! Not right!
More women should be directing!
In my humble opinion, I was very disappointed that director Dee Rees and her powerful film Mudbound wasn’t even nominated.
I also would have liked to see director Patty Jenkins and her exciting film Wonder Woman be recognized

Now we can have fun watching McConnell blame Bannon; FOX News blaming McConnell; and waiting to see who blames Trump and who he blames, fingers pointing in all directions. Of course, we will have to watch McConnell push the obscene tax vote before Jones is seated.

Last night, voters signed a referendum against Donald Trump and his regressive and divisive policies. His unpopularity and the resistance from activists helped fuel Democratic victories across the nation. The victories had both breathe and depth from school boards and city councils to Governor’s mansions.
The most watched election was in Virginia where Democrat Ralph Northam far exceeded late polling to win a resounding victory for Governor. Democrats swept the other statewide offices in the state including … Read more »

It’s a natural quality for women to nurture, and we should hold on to that generosity of spirit.
At the Women in Film luncheon in 1992, I spoke about the skewed perception of women in relation to men. I shared my thoughts on how language gave us an insight into the way women were viewed in a male-dominated society:
A man is commanding—a woman is demanding.
A man is forceful—a woman

Here is the truth. When I started working on my 1976 movie, A Star is Born, I tried to get my friend Sydney Pollack to direct it. I hired Frank Pierson to rewrite the screenplay, but then he told me he wouldn’t do a second draft unless he also directed the film. And since Sydney was unavailable and we had to start shooting, I had to agree to … Read more »
I cloned Sammie once when she died… yet I keep hearing I cloned her two times. You can get a litter of puppies from one cloning… and that’s what we got. I also read that I cloned her in Korea… also untrue. It was in the USA. The cost was half of what they say!
I explained my reasons in this article which I feel I must share again.

Larry Kramer does not need me to publicize his beautiful play. It stands on its own. For the last time – I will answer his complaints, which rewrite history.
When I saw the play in 1985 I was very moved and immediately contacted Larry to acquire the rights. After going through several drafts with Larry, I hired another writer to develop a screenplay that was faithful to Larry’s play — but adapting it to make it more cinematic. It was … Read more »

To All of Barbra’s Fans,
Today we are celebrating a very special birthday for our beloved Barbra. As if being the best-selling female recording artist in history wasn’t enough, Barbra has also been passionately fighting for so many important causes throughout her life: women’s health and women’s equality, civil rights and voting rights, educational opportunity and the preservation of the planet. In 2014, Barbra co-founded the Women’s Heart Alliance (WHA) and together they are leading the movement to promote women’s … Read more »
