It’s always upsetting when my words are taken out of context.

Here is the truth. When I started working on my 1976 movie, A Star is Born, I tried to get my friend Sydney Pollack to direct it. I hired Frank Pierson to rewrite the screenplay, but then he told me he wouldn’t do a second draft unless he also directed the film. And since Sydney was unavailable and we had to start shooting, I had to agree to … Read more »

I cloned Sammie once when she died… yet I keep hearing I cloned her two times. You can get a litter of puppies from one cloning… and that’s what we got. I also read that I cloned her in Korea… also untrue. It was in the USA. The cost was half of what they say!

I explained my reasons in this article which I feel I must share again.

LYRICS

By Desmond Child.

Lady Liberty
Lift your lamp of hope a little higher
Burn that flame of freedom
Just a little brighter please
For all the world to see
And still believe

Oh, Lady Liberty
Show us how to stand and feel a little prouder
As the anthem plays let’s sing
And raise our voices even louder
Since the real danger lies in the sound of silence

Lady Liberty
I see you rise above the crashing waves
Bearing witness

For those who are encouraged and inspired by my art, you make what I do worthwhile – – thank you, dearly. For those who tell me to “keep my mouth shut,” here is my response. It’s as true today as it was nearly 25 years ago when I spoke these words:

President Kennedy was the first to suggest the creation of the National Endowment for the Arts. Well aware that art can be controversial, he concluded, “[the artist] must often

Cronyism, corruption, incompetence, high crimes and misdemeanors with the Bush Administration, the list goes on and on. I can’t help but feel like I am back in 1972, when Richard Nixon was embroiled in a complex web of political scandals. Today, there may be no Watergate Hotel, but as a result of this administration’s overwhelming incompetence and arrogance our deficit has ballooned, we are entangled in an unwinnable war and hundreds of thousands of young men and women have been … Read more »

How lucky for George Bush that his well-timed nomination of Judge Roberts to the Supreme Court has taken the heat off of Karl Rove. Let’s hope that the press does not forget about Mr. Rove and the White House’s role in the leak of undercover CIA agent Valerie Plame’s identity. The Fitzgerald investigation and the Rove story are too important to stay off the front page. Not only does it reveal the truly secretive and subversive nature of this administration, … Read more »

The idea of a liberal media bias is simply a myth. If only it were true, we might have a more humane, open-minded, and ultimately effective public debate on the issues facing the country. We may actually embrace the principles of liberalism, instead of using it as a tool to divide the nation. Everything good that has happened in this country is founded on the ideology of liberalism. Liberals in the past were liberators who fought for a woman’s right … Read more »

Regardless of partisanship, the essence of our voting process must have integrity. Why are we allowing private for-profit corporations, loyal to politicians that give them lucrative contracts worth millions of dollars, manage our votes? How can we trust the outcome of our elections when we have outsourced the managing of our electoral process and the counting of the ballots to private corporations who keep secret from election administrators the program codes for their software and refuse to offer a verifiable … Read more »

John Ashcroft lost the Senate election to a dead man. He then was made Attorney General of the United States…that to me is failing upwards. Condoleezza Rice, who has failed miserably the last four years with respect to national security, is yet another example.

Only in the Bush Administration can one’s consistent failures and misjudgments lead to ascension within the ranks. Chief White House expert on terrorism Richard Clarke sent Rice an urgent memo just days after she took office. … Read more »

The program is both thoughtful and in depth. Democracy Now! is broadcast on Pacifica, community, and National Public Radio stations, public access cable television stations … Read more »

  2. BUSH IGNORED THE HART-RUDMAN COMMISSION TERRORISM REPORT, WHICH OUTLINED A RANGE OF U.S. SECURITY REQUIREMENTS AND STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES.

I find it appalling that the Bush Administration, most of whose members have never served in the military, have questioned the patriotism of Democrats that oppose the President’s handling of the war in Iraq. Many of these Democratic leaders have clearly shown their bravery and loyalty in combat through their own military service. The architects of the Iraq war and the Republicans who stand by the Bush administration with unwavering support for its policies of pre-emptive war have painstakingly tried … Read more »

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and those are the ones you want to concentrate on.
— George W. Bush

Playing on the Abraham Lincoln adage, George W. Bush was quoted making this statement. The Bush Administration, from the outset, has used the approach of disseminating lies, lies of omission and half truths, cover-ups and smoke screens to pull the wool over the eyes of the American people. And the media has allowed them to … Read more »

I only hope that Thursday night’s debate finally sent a clear message to the undecided and swing voters in this country about who deserves to win the election come November 2 and lead this country back from where it has strayed. Thursday night we saw two very different men standing before us. John Kerry showed us his true colors. To clarity misinformation in a story issued by local Los Angeles television station, KABC, the nature of cloning occasionally results in the birth of a litter rather than a single animal. The cloning procedure in this case resulted in a litter of four beautiful puppies, three of which survived. The KABC story was inaccurate in it’s headline which stated that Ms. Streisand had had beloved Coton de Tuléar, Samantha, cloned twice. The fact is that in using the DNA of … Read more »

After putting out an article (on this website) about how fake news gets almost double the tweets than real news, I felt really sad. Why are people so drawn to insults and negativity? Why do fake stories sell more than true ones ? Is it human nature? When I do an interview, I like to be quoted accurately. I also expect the truth to be told, with facts checked.

This is why I’m reluctant to give interviews without having quote approval. In last week’s Variety article, they mistakenly made it sound like I didn’t want to be in Funny Girl! What??? I fought hard for that part! How could they make that mistake? I loved the character of Fanny Brice (they even misspelled her name Franny).… Read more »

Larry Kramer does not need me to publicize his beautiful play. It stands on its own. For the last time – I will answer his complaints, which rewrite history.
