I first met Cis Corman in acting class when I was 16! She was 32 and had four children. She remained my best friend and surrogate mother since then. I treasured our lifelong friendship, her intelligence, her taste, and her integrity. I loved Cis dearly and will miss her forever. She was also Auntie Cis to my son Jason.

Cis cast our first film for Barwood Films, Up the Sandbox. Cis went on to become a pre-eminent casting director

In times of crises, we join together as one nation indivisible.  We salute our true heroes – the doctors, nurses, scientists, clinicians, pharmacists, food workers and every first responder who compromises their own safety and well-being to ensure ours.

This pandemic has the potential to bring out the best in us — not only as citizens of the United States, but as a global community with a common goal.

Sadly, a lack of leadership compounds the fear and confusion we … Read more »

The Prince of Tides Criterion Edition – Out Now!

The Prince of Tides was released nearly 30 years ago… and I’ve just finished an updated director’s edition working with Criterion on this new package for over a year. I hope you enjoy it as much as I’ve enjoyed doing it.

We’ve restored the movie to a 4K restoration…and I combined commentary that I recorded in 1991 with new commentary that I recorded this past year. There is a special making-of featurette, along with some archival interviews recorded at the

Omar was my first leading man in the movies. He was handsome, sophisticated and charming. He was a proud Egyptian and in some people’s eyes, the idea of casting him in ‘Funny Girl’ was considered controversial. Yet somehow, under the direction of William Wyler, the romantic chemistry between Nicky Arnstein and Fanny Brice transcended stereotypes and prejudice. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to work with Omar, and I’m profoundly sad to hear of his passing.

Throughout the years, Kirk Kerkorian was a man of extraordinary generosity. He rarely sought attention or acknowledgement for his contributions.

In 1969 I opened Mr. Kerkorian’s International Hotel in Las Vegas. Not until New Year’s Eve 1993 did I return for the opening of his magnificent MGM Grand Hotel. At that time, because of his generous contribution to my foundation, I was able to give support to the fight against AIDS and the fight for Women’s & Children’s Rights and … Read more »

I would like to join with the Humane Society International in its effort to draw world attention to the barbarity of an annual festival in China celebrating… yes, celebrating… the human consumption of dogs. Dogs became domesticated, became in every true sense our best friends, very early in the evolution of our species. Part of human civility is that we don’t condone the slaughter of our best friends.

It is important that pressure has been brought to bear both outside … Read more »

Associated Press recently requested the changes Barbra Streisand and James Brolin have initiated to conserve water at their home. Here are the five specifics they provided:

1. We’re working with a company that specializes in water reuse technology, to devise the best program for water conservation.

2. We have turned off the water for more than 70% of our lawns, allowing them to turn completely brown.

3. We’re investigating blackwater and greywater systems (advanced wastewater treatments), that will enable us … Read more »

Barbra Streisand is co-founder of the Women’s Heart Alliance.

My eyes were opened to gender inequality when I was 26.

I’d decided I wanted to make a movie based on Isaac Bashevis Singer’s story of Yentl, a young woman who has to pretend she’s a man to get an education. It was hard to convince anyone that an actress could direct, that a woman could manage a budget or that a mainstream audience … Read more »

In the wake of the financial crisis, President Obama took the helm of a sinking economic ship and help to right it. The unemployment rate is now once again at pre-recession levels — the lowest in seven years (5.5%).

President Obama’s Administration, with only opposition from the Republicans, has steadily help put more than 11 million Americans back to work in the private sector. In the strongest period of American manufacturing job growth since the 1990s, the … Read more »

American women, the country needs to hear from you! Do you know how powerful your one voice can be? How powerful your one vote can be?

Remember, it only takes a few votes to make all the difference. In the presidential election of 2000, 104 million people voted and only 537 votes in Florida triggered events that changed the world. Would we have become involved in the unnecessary war in Iraq if Al Gore … Read more »

During a Congressional hearing this year, Texas Rep. Joe Barton (R) invoked Noah’s Ark saying, “I would point out that if you’re a believer in the Bible, one would have to say the Great Flood is an example of climate change and that certainly wasn’t because mankind had overdeveloped hydrocarbon.”

Really? Because 97% of the world’s climate scientists beg to differ today.

Pope Francis, who also reads the Bible, understands the current threat better than Rep. Barton. … Read more »

Whenever I hear white Americans say “my family had nothing to do with slavery so why should I apologize” I think of Willy Brandt.

Willy Brandt was Germany’s Chancellor from 1969 to 1974. In 1970, he made an historic visit to Poland. Brandt came to the site of the Warsaw Ghetto—an open-air walled prison where the Nazis forced Jews to live before “liquidating” it in 1943. Brandt came to acknowledge Germany’s culpability in the

It’s always upsetting when my words are taken out of context.

Here is the truth. When I started working on my 1976 movie, A Star is Born, I tried to get my friend Sydney Pollack to direct it. I hired Frank Pierson to rewrite the screenplay, but then he told me he wouldn’t do a second draft unless he also directed the film. And since Sydney was unavailable and we had to start shooting, I had to agree to … Read more »

I cloned Sammie once when she died… yet I keep hearing I cloned her two times. You can get a litter of puppies from one cloning… and that’s what we got. I also read that I cloned her in Korea… also untrue. It was in the USA. The cost was half of what they say!

I explained my reasons in this article which I feel I must share again.

To clarity misinformation in a story issued by local Los Angeles television station, KABC, the nature of cloning occasionally results in the birth of a litter rather than a single animal. The cloning procedure in this case resulted in a litter of four beautiful puppies, three of which survived. The KABC story was inaccurate in it’s headline which stated that Ms. Streisand had had beloved Coton de Tuléar, Samantha, cloned twice. The fact is that in using the DNA of … Read more »

After putting out an article (on this website) about how fake news gets almost double the tweets than real news, I felt really sad. Why are people so drawn to insults and negativity? This is why I’m reluctant to give interviews without having quote approval. In last week’s Variety article, they mistakenly made it sound like I didn’t want to be in Funny Girl! What??? As the anthem plays let’s sing
And raise our voices even louder
Since the real danger lies in the sound of silence
