Barbra’s Reflection on Her Longtime Friend, Musical Director, Mort Lindsey
May 09, 2012, 3:00am
Mort Lindsey was the musical director for a number of Barbra’s concerts, including The Concert in Central Park. Mort passed away recently at the age of 89. Here is Barbra’s reflection on the passing of her longtime friend:
I loved Mort. He was a doll. In a very real way, he was a dream come true for me. I first saw him when I was a teenager and got to attend a free Judy Garland concert. They were either taping it as a show or for a recording. Mort was on stage conducting for Judy, and I could sense how safe she felt with his judgements and encouragements. I stood there fantasizing that one day I would work with him too. And then, that one day arrived and we worked together many wonderful times. He was great. – Barbra Streisand
