BarbraStreisand.com can confirm that Richard Jay-Alexander, will appear on QVC to promote “What Matters Most – Barbra Streisand Sings The Lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman” – the new album that will be released by Columbia Records on August 23rd 2011.
Richard will be discussing the Deluxe Version of the album. A special 2-disc set which comes with 10 newly recorded songs by Barbra on disc one, accompanied by a second disc which includes a collection of previously released performances of Barbra singing the lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman including “The Way We Were”, “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers”, “Papa Can You Hear Me?” and “Pieces of Dreams”.
There will also be a bonus DVD offered to those who pre-order, which is an extended filmed piece which takes you “behind the scenes” with Streisand and her long-time friends, Alan & Marilyn Bergman. The DVD also contains photos, interviews, footage of Barbra singing live at the MUSICARES Tribute earlier this year, etc. As always, QVC offers it’s audience and buyers something they cannot get anywhere else. We’ll be there!
Richard has been a frequent collaborator with Barbra since 2000. He started out on the New York and Los Angeles performances of the Timeless Tour. He co-wrote the liner notes for Movie Album and the TV Specials DVD Box Set with Barbra’s long time A&R / Record Executive Jay Landers, and spent practically the entire part of 2006-2007 on Barbra’s USA, Canada and European Tour.
This will be Richard’s 4th appearance on QVC. Richard appeared on QVC in 2009, twice, to discuss and promote Barbra’s studio album “Love Is The Answer”. He then appeared on Barbra’s birthday in 2010 to talk about the release of DVD/CD Set “Barbra Streisand – Live The The Village Vanguard”. (He also co-directed, with Barbra, the act on stage and co-produced the Vanguard DVD with Scott Lochmus).
He predicted in 2009: “She has had No. 1 albums in every decade of her career. I am predicting the same for this one!”. Needless to say, his prediction came true.
“She is like no one else. I know that and welcome the opportunity to introduce Streisand fans and QVC shoppers to the new recording.” he told BarbraStreisand.com two years ago – and he’s excited to do the same again, the second time around…
Richard recently stated, “Just when you think Barbra has topped herself … she does it again! This was a brilliant idea for a record and she is a superb actress who sings. The Bergman catalogue, both previously recorded and the new ones featured on this CD set, are just extraordinary and Barbra re-invents some of these songs to a new definitive status. When Barbra Streisand gives her voice to a song, it is born anew. It’s also because she has chosen it for its content. That may sound “lofty” but, nevertheless, is true. I have a new favorite each day, as I listen and prepare for QVC … because I know they’ll ask. For me .. that is one tricky question!”
Be sure to tune in on Thursday, July 28th between 7-9 A.M. or set those TIVOs!
